"Philly Government Demands Small Bloggers Pay $300 for Business License"
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=19422
This reeks of a couple different problems, to me. One, "you can't do business without a license" sounds like a protection racket in the first place -- oh, but when the MAFIA dos it, it's illegal. You know, governments and mafias are just about the same, but legitimacy I guess comes from whichever comes first and has the most popular support built up; at this point in time I'd say there's HARDLY a difference in corruption levels. Yes, this was stated with an intentional level of melodrama. Two, there are free speech implications. A blog isn't a business even if it generates ad revenue. If you make a little money ONLY to support the platform through which you are exercising your right to free speech, that's not PROFIT.It's money, but not profit.
So fuck.

So I was reading something about stem cell research, and some idiot was posting in the comments about abortion and how stem cell research is murder.
Can you imagine what today a group of people could accomplish establishing a way of life in a new New World, with the knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and industry that we currently have? Imagine if the best just packed up and left for this new place where they could start over, unhindered by all the worst parts of liberal and conservative ideology that hold everything back today.
This is yet another reason we need space exploration.

I think it's getting to be time to fuck off and drive across the country. Maybe I don't even have to do it destructively, by getting fired just to be free. I've got a co-worker again, currently doing part-time, who might be glad for some hours. We've seemingly started to get caught up a bit. If I can get out for a while, maybe I can save my mind.
