I can't afford A Dance With Dragons :[
An Italian restaurant is courting me to be their sous chef. They seem really adamant about their wanting me to work there but when I told them the pay they were offering wasn't enough incentive to go there (mainly because I don't want to work in a kitchen again) they basically told me that it was the best they could do.
Now, I'm no stranger to having to haggle for wages and I'm also fairly experienced with kitchens and I am familiar with this particular restaurant. I know they do EXTREMELY well. It's one of the busiest (and most expensive) restaurants in the city and I know this guy is just trying to low ball me.
First he told me I would work on salary, which I rejected right out of the gate. Fucking working for a salary pay when you're a cook. First of all, your hours are not set in stone and when you are on salary they WILL abuse your time and assign you more than you're alotted PLUS just the natural tendancy for owners wanting to stay open later than closing if the place is busy. It would also mean I am exempted from the tip pool, so fuck that.
So... I straight up told him that I think he is trying to low ball me and that now I know he is dishonest and I don't work for dishonest people.
The look on his face when I was that blunt was pretty priceless, he didn't know what to say to that. So I just said thanks for considering me and left. Then, tonight he calls me and asks if I would come back for another interview LOL. I said I would but I'm still 75% sure I won't take the job. Problem is, I really could use the money. I don't know. I really hate taking a job and then quitting when I find something better, that's just as dishonest and I like to think that I am very honest and sincere person.
