Hehehe
Let's just say when I was your age, my entire bedroom wall mostly consisted of NIN posters, and by the time I saw NIN in '94 I was a drooling, slobbering, insane NIN fanatic. ;)
It was always the debate 'which nin album is the best one?'. Then you sit there, and ponder, then the correct answer always seemed to be 'it depends on what your mood is'.
Angry/aggressive: Wish (ooo I was so happy the day I figured out track 98/99). :P
Heartbroken: PHM (I used to not be able to listen to Something I can Never Have. Now I look back and laugh at myself. hehehe)
Downward Spiral: I remember when this album came out, I didn't care for it that much. After quite a few listens, I realized it was the height of all his work, the true genius of NIN. Doesn't mean it's the BEST album, but it is the most creative. The Becoming is a fabulous song. I wish I never gave away my Becoming shirt. :(
'Perfect Drug' was so insanely disappointing, but the Lost Highway and NBK soundtracks demonstrated that Trent was a fabulous producer, and that is really his current calling. I don't think he should be MAKING music anymore, he should be producing it. Nurturing his label, and tending to business matters.
To me, The Fragile sounds like a melange of half finished work, dithering attempts at this and that, shoveled onto two cds. I mean, come on. StarFu**rs Inc? What is that? and sadly, that was one of two songs on there that actually sounded complete.
And the lyrics are horrible. :( DWS Had AMAZING lyrics, rich and meaningful (in that angsty kinda way ;D ). But TF was like.. 'the sea is blue.. i love you.. let's be true.. booo hoo hooo' or whatnot (errr it's been almost three years since i've listened to it.. i'll dig out my copy).
If he DID continue on to make music, I hope it would be instrumental work, that was airy and beautiful (like dryft, mmm). Yes, it would alienate a lot of his listeners, but I think a lot of his older fan base would appreciate it. We're not the angsty, angry teens anymore.. we're tired, beat up real worlders. (bleh) Almost all the music I listen to these days has no vocals. I get enough talking at me all day long. (haha)
TF, to me, definately reflects a person that has been spending a lot of time by water. It's like a ripple in water, but it wasn't put together to reflect as such. I wish they would re do it. :( The label pretty much strongarmed him into releasing stuff.
OK well uhm I wrote a book. There are a few feelings of mine regarding this subject. ^_^
*doesn't admit to the fact that I had enough NIN shirts in high school to wear a different one for two weeks*
I wonder where all my nin shirts went? I ebay'd a few , gave away a lot over the years... I have a REALLY rare one that I just hang in the closet and oggle on occasion (the 'silver' trent, with the 'silver' n).
I had a giant poster of him with black latex gloves on (mmm) and my favorite poster was of him in the Wish video, with his goofy little shorts on. I remember I bought the last Muddy Nin Lollapalooza poster for my friend at the local record store, then tried to steal it back later.
hhahah bucket of ninworms wiiiide open
my cat is snoring. if she saw me typing about nin, she'd come over and kick my ass. anyone who tells you nin sucks, and they never listened to it, and listens to industrial music, is a LIAR.
