They have vastly shaped who I am today, even in a fairly short amount of time. I owe a lot of my growth to the examples and guidance they have given me. With a Wonder and a Wild Desire is the name of my blog where I put my more reflective/theological/spiritual musings as time allows. |

2009-07-03 12:42:31 ET Yesterday...I used an outhouse for the first time ever. See, we had dinner on campus with the Archabbot, and then we all left in a caravan to a little (and I mean little) town called Birds Eye. There exists the single greatest place on earth to get ice cream and burgers: Dairy Barn. I got a small vanilla and chocolate swirl ice cream cone, which was about 7 inches of ice cream. I ate it and was content. On the drive home, our vehicle took a turn for the Monte Cassino shrine about a mile from the Archabbey. It's a rustic little chapel with all of its original art (at least I think). It also has no plumbing. So, when the ice cream began to work against me, I had to take action. Fearing the consequences of trying to wait until we got back on campus, I ventured behind the chapel hoping to find a nice secluded area and a handful of leaves that weren't poison ivy. Luckily, one of the girls pointed me to a clearing that had two shacks painted with the red hue charactaristic of St. Meinrad asthetics. And then history was made. Suprisingly, I had to travel outside of the South before actually using a real outhouse. It was fun. The best part was the grafitti on the inside of the outhouse door that read "Prepare to meet thy God." I lol'd.
