Trying to Get My Classes In Order
2006-01-20 17:50:46 ET

...and, Oasis is down. Again.

No, it's not a lush, verdant area in the middle of a desert. Quite the opposite, actually. It is, in fact, the system by which we register our classes, get our grades, and just generally stay connected.

It may also, possibly, be a circle of hell. Right down there next to the one Claw reserved for obnoxious pagans and whiny-goths.

Also: Hug me.

Hugs x3.

We have a system like that too but it's called WebAdvisor and apparently it runs in the same circle of hell as your Oasis does.

I bumped ya up to three digits. *pat pat*

We used to run on a thing called... uh... ah, I forget. But everyone got all quiet and apprehensive when it didn't crash. Musta thought it was a sign of the impending apocalypse.

That's about what it is here. We're pretty sure that if Oasis worked consistently the world would end.

Well, that or the school would have to be responsible for its own mistakes. One of those.

Our district was using Macs, and everything worked pretty much flawlessly (or as near as one can hope, anyways) and then they suddenly replaced them all (excepting the video lab in the high school) with Dells.

ARGH!

All of the instructor's terminals were hooped, and the servers went down for days at a time, usually on a weekly basis. One school actually had their server down for a whole month... I think they've spent more in maintenance in the last year and a half than they did for the whole time they had computers prior.

hee hee..now, see, we have a similar problem, but it seems to have happened once the Macs were introduced. They spend a lot of their time sitting there looking like sullen little compies while the techies try to figure out why they refuse to run.

I think this is due to the fact that the people in the lab have a love affair with PC's that I don't always wholly understand, although I do love MY PC to death. It ist my bestest bunny.

Oh, you can make Macs not work when you add layers of needless administration software.

*pets mouse*

I hear the rustle of DVDs. And the roar of the big machines.

We do have to do that, unfortunately. We're teaching our students to be avid hackers, afterall.

Then, of course, we get upset when they hack the system.

I giggle at bureaucracy.

I prefer to poke it. With a multi-tined utensil.

2006-01-26 20:34:02 ET

...you're forking bureaucracy?

2006-01-26 21:25:56 ET

Oh yes.

2006-01-29 14:27:33 ET

Lovely. Remember to use protection, dear.

2006-01-29 17:09:42 ET

Yeah... I hear they carry some nasty things.
