Lst night I sat and had french fries and ice cream in coco's with my david, April and Arne. After I returned home and Dave and I were enjoying the first relaxing moment we've had all week... a girl knocks on the door to ask for help.

Her and her friend were driving to her house when they saw a siberian husky wandering around in the torrential rain. They thought they would stop to see if the Dog had a collar. Upon stopping the car and getting out the dog pushed past the girls and got into the open car. It sat there growling and barking at anyone who would try to coax the animal out of the vehicle.

That's when they knocked on my door. David suited up in his layers of jackets and armed himself with a broom. I grabbed my umbrella and attempted to calm the girls while david tried to get the dog out of the car.

Eventually I called the police. They gave me the number of animal control with the warning that the animal control may not come out.

I pause on the phone a second and asked who I call if the animal control can't come out and help us. The nice sounding Lady told me to call the animal control.
But if they can't come out, who do I call then?
Animal control.
ok. thankyou

In my head I am thinking... what the hell?

I called animal control they gave us an eta of forty minutes.

Oh goody... I have forty minutes to wait with a large dog snarling at us, both girls have no jackets and the one girl's mom is convinced the girl is lying about the incident to stay out past curfew. Dave is poking at the creature with a broom and another neighbor is trying to call the dog standing barefoot in the flooded street.

things were quiet for a moment as all assembled thought about what to do... And very anti clamatically, The dog stopped growling and got out of the car. It headed straight toward Dave and the girls screamed. The dog spent the next few moments bouncing around to all of us. I urged the girls to get in the car and drive home as I ran to my front door to close it.

The girls left, my neighbor led the dog down the street, Dave and I went back into the house.

I called animal control to tell them that the dog was out of the car but still wandering the streets. The guy on the phone told me that was good because they weren't sure when they could have sent someone and they will try to patrol the street sometime that night.

And what have we learned from this random event? I learned the animal control is no help.

I wonder what the mom was thinking on the other line and what conversations between them will be like from now on.

Kilted: My wonder about the mom and daughter is what had she done in the past to envoke that sort of reaction from her mom.

Analog: It was pretty late at night... I wonder if thedog had gotten out and no one knew. sometimes animals get out no matter how much you try to watch them. What I do hate is that the animal did not have a collar.

City Animal control is no help until you report abuse and they eventually send around the special police unit for that.

In my town however I have seen the animal contorl officer save a SKUNK from low tide. not a pet or anything just a damn skunk.

Also, the animal control officers in town recognise my dog *blush* She's overly friendly to people (jumping up, licking etc.) she meets when she escapes and is quickly picked up. They really enjoy her comapny and treat her nice but they still fine us for leash law violations (which have totalled more than the cost of buying her from the pound) hehehe

If it had been my car the dog jumped in and the dog was not obviously "off" such as rabid or seizuring or something I would have left him in the damn car and brought him home/to his home (if he had tags) LOL

Just keep an eye out for missing animal posters and indications that he wants to leave.
