I hate every stupid wedding dress in every silly magazine and store I've looked at. My mom has already said she will make my dress, I just wish there was something out there with some sort of style I would partly copy so I know if it looks good on me before I go ahead with my designs..

I know what you mean, hon.

my g/f is thinking about wearing some sort of red Buddhist thing. not a dress.

...not that we are planning anything soon. ;)

2005-05-04 10:57:25 ET

Xai- what do you picture yourself in?

2005-05-04 11:40:31 ET

I think I am going to wear silver... Maybe a dark blue. I want a really long train and it cannot be strapless! I refuse to be puling up my dress all day. What does your dress look like?

2005-05-04 11:56:56 ET

*smiles* sounds gorgeous.
This is a composite of my dress parts:

It's silver-sheen lilac brocade, taffeta, and organza.

Wow. It's beautiful!

Thankyou. :) If any pictures turn out well, I'll post 'em.

just go with a style you already know looks good on you..like winter....thats what i did with mine...found the patterns for the different parts, and then found the fabric....i'm sure whatever you pick will be gorgeous...

2005-05-06 10:44:29 ET

just had a random thought....why not go with a variation off the dress in the painting?...just add some sleaves.....just a thought....

2005-05-06 10:58:23 ET

The dress in the painting is accually clothing I own... He just painted the bodice different colors. I think however, I want a fuller skirt.. and most certiantly a train.

What is your dress going to look like?

2005-05-06 13:10:37 ET

the idea i had for you was a little different...just a take on what is in the painting...i actually drew it up....i'll post it in my gallery so you can see it cause i'm an internet idiot and have no idea how to post it on your journal here...don't mind the crappiness of the drawing..i'm trying to learn how to use my new palette thingie....the actual hardcopy is much nicer...

but my dress is red and silver with sheer sleaves from the elbow belling out, an empire waistline, and a false petticoat cut out at the bottom and a small train...after all if one is going to do the whole "wedding" thing you have to have a train..right?..lol

2005-05-07 13:44:58 ET

That's a cool idea for a dress. I have never had someone design something for me before. Thanks.
I still think I want a fuller skirt though. I want lots of fabric.

2005-05-07 16:44:41 ET

*grin* those ideas all sound fabulous.

I'm going all funky with mine.. my hair's going to be a HUGE mass of curls, and there will be glitter on my cheeks + collarbones.
*squee*

2 WEEKS.

2005-05-08 08:20:49 ET

i understand the "squee" feeling winter...i have no idea what i am going to do with my hair...and i still have to pick out my outfit for the reception...its going to be a buca di Beppo's so i don't want to go wandering through in a wedding dress..lol

np about the design xaikayla...when i was in fashion design school my specialty was bridal and theater....when i meet people i usually think up something in my head for them no matter what..lol...even if i do try to give it up...

2005-05-08 17:26:05 ET

Nice! I'm just wearing my wedding dress to the reception (the wedding will be at 11am, reception/lunch at 12:30.. the whole thing should be over at 3) so I can stand a few hours looking like a lilac confection.

2005-05-08 18:09:24 ET

i'm just terrified i'll get spaghetti sauce on the dress...mid-morning is a great time to get married though...it's been a pain trying to get everything set for an evening wedding on halloween...

2005-05-08 18:25:54 ET

Yeah.. spaghetti sauce on the dress wouldn't be good.

2005-05-09 06:32:54 ET

I am getting married at 12:30! The chappel we've chosen has stained glass window and they look the best when the sun is high and the windows are all lit up.
About the sauce on the dress: Who cares about the dress, you wear it once. However, I really like the indian tradition of changing into the bright colored sari for the reception. Autumn, if you do change for the reception... go red and teal!

2005-05-09 07:37:24 ET

Saris are great! Are you going to have a group musical number, too? ;)

2005-05-09 08:40:22 ET

we're getting married on the side of a hill that overlooks cal poly pomona...sunset will light up the valley without blinding everyone...lol..

red and teal...that could work... funnny you should mention the indian thing...i actually had 3 different wedding dresses set i n my mind for myself...and the one that i almost went with would be a take on the indian sari's in gold tones....lol..

2005-05-09 18:41:33 ET

Xai- right on!! :D

The Chinese tradition is to change into a bright red cheongsam for the reception: it signifies vitality and prosperity. :)

2005-05-10 06:47:52 ET

It looks good, too, that cheongsam. :)

2005-05-10 06:58:56 ET

Depends on who wears it.
My future mother-in-law tried to convince me to wear one, but while they may look good on small boned, tiny asian woman, they are NOT well suited to the descendants of valkyries. *chuckle*

These people are so tiny: mum in law's femur is shorter than my shin.

2005-05-10 07:00:03 ET

ah--this is true. not good for the Brunnhildesque. ;)

2005-05-10 07:01:54 ET

;)

I found a dress I kinda liked. The nearest place that may have the dress is two and a half hours away. I called the shop to ask if they have the dress in the inventory, they had too many dresses to know for sure. I asked about the designer, they told be it was ittalian and very expensive. I asked about dresses that were not white and they told me that most come in ivory as well. I clearified my question and asked about dresses that were any color but white and ivory, they have lots that have lovely colored trim. I explained the importance of it not being a white dress and how picky I am. They told me that they have other color dresses but that they are really expensive. I finished the conversation by asking if I just shouldn't come. they suddenly became really nice and set an appointment up for me for saturday at three. Thats it,I am done trying to find anything remotely similar to try on.. *begins sketching dress ideas*
