Pondering

I start putting the bodice of the wedding dress together today. I realize I could probably make a good living as a seamstress. I, however want to be a lighting designer and that doesn't feel as easy to do. Why is that? The Art you want to do is so difficult to get payed for and the other talent seems to attract more buisness than I really want.

Wow, do I hear you on that.

Most of my income comes in via the graphic design that I do... but every fibre of my being knows that I'm a sculptor.

Unfortunately, sculpture isn't as high in demand these days as I'd like. ;)
Maybe I'll just make garden statuary forever.

I'd be willing to compromise. Even if you don't want to do the seamstress thing except on the side, you may want to make it your main thing and do the lighting design on the side.

maybe I'm just ignorant but I think theres more of a market for tailors than lighting people *shrug*

Dear Kell Kell, I miss you so much and wish there was more time for us to visit.

About your post: That's how I ended up in housekeeping. I had the business know how and an innate ability to clean. So the big bucks rolled in for a while while I did that. Now that I want to be an artist---yeah. Not so much money. But if you enjoy seamstressing (lol) at all--I think you should consider opening your own little in-home shop with just a simple seller's permit (SD county of course). They're free and taxed little. Just until you are discovered as the most awesome lighting professional EVER! :)

And if you decide to be a professional seamstress, I already know 2 people who have been asking if I knew anyone worthy of making their costumes. :D

I can't make any decisions such as starting a buisness before finishing school. I don't have the energy for that.

Sub: unfortunantely in the theatre world, if I persue some thing to fall back on ie: sewing; I will be a seamstress. That's why so many actors wait tables.

What's wrong with being a seamstress? I was a housekeeper. You can't get much worse than cleaning people's toilets.

Oh, it's not a matter of being beneath me. I am pretty dang proud of some of the things I have made.
