"İstanbul" - Pamela Spence

bir ortak geçmişimiz var, bir de hep açık yaralar.
kendine hatırlattığın: fazla parlamış anılar!
karşıma her yerde çıkan otuz yaş ustu adamlar,
"hep seni sevmiştim" diyen, bir şeyler bekler bakışlar!

yerçekimine yenik üstün, basın,
bir de hep güzel tınlamış adın, adın!
cebinde bir tek numaran kalmış artık,
herkes için bir tadımlık!

istanbul seni hapsetmiş, eski bir banda kaydetmiş
yüzlerce binlerce insan aman allah hep bu şarkıyı söylemiş
istanbul seni kaybetmiş, ilaçlayıp berbat etmiş
davul gibi gerilen derini aman allah kimbilir kimler inletmiş?

eğer "sana ihtiyacim var" dersen; her an gelebilirim.
kendinden bir vazgecersen eğer; gercekten sevebilirim.
aşkimi gordugun zaman, yenilmiş olman farketmez.
kendini sevmezsen eğer; kimse gercekten affetmez!

yerçekimine yenik üstün, basin,
bir de hep güzel tınlamış adın, adın!
cebinde bir tek numaran kalmış artık,
herkes için bir tadımlık!

istanbul seni hapsetmis, eski bir banda kaydetmiş
yüzlerce binlerce insan aman allah hep bu şarkıyı söylemiş
istanbul seni kaybetmiş, ilaçlayıp berbat etmiş
davul gibi gerilen derini aman allah kimbilir kimler inletmiş?

ahh, yes they are song lyrics -- Im still working on the translation. So far I have the chorus (a very rough, poopy translation):

istanbul seni hapsetmiş, eski bir banda kaydetmiş
(Istanbul will lock you up like prision, an old band will lose you)
yüzlerce binlerce insan aman allah hep bu şarkıyı söylemiş
(hunderds thousands of people oh my god everyone sings this song)
istanbul seni kaybetmiş, ilaçlayıp berbat etmiş
(Istanbul will lose you, mess you up with pills)
davul gibi gerilen derini aman allah kimbilir kimler inletmiş?
(Like the back of a davul so deep oh my god "something" who would cause this suffering?)

Davul is a turkish drum, noisy thing really. During Ramazan (3 weeks or so of fasting) here, they bang on it in the streets at 3 in the morning to let you know that its time to get up and eat before the sun comes up so you dont break fast. Scared the crap out of me more than once :)

Russian sounds like Turkish a bit (just to give you an idea). I dont know Russian, but I do know a decent amount of French -- like to read something I could comprehend, but to make my own sentence is like rocket science :)

Im not from Turkey, Im from the US (Pittsburgh actually), but my boyfriend is a Turk. I came here this year to study Turkish and (finally) be with him. There is litterally NOBODY who speaks fluent English here. Like, to run into somebody on the street and be like "İngilizce biliyor musun? (Do you speak English?)" they'll tell you "yes yes hello" so then you say something like "oh GREAT! :) Im so happy I REALLY need your help -- do you know where this address is?" and they look at you like a confused animal and say "ok no eeengleesh bye bye!" and leave. They do this out of just trying to help, but yeah... it MAJORLY backfires.

Anyways yep thats mah story :)
