Okay. Seriously. I can't fucking get over this Gotye thing. If you haven't heard the song "Somebody that I used to know" go ahead and subject yourself to it. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY)
You'll probably love it forever and make it the soundtrack to your fucking wet dreams because that is what everyone else seems to be doing.
The song itself isn't bad enough to piss me off. It's a bad song, don't get me wrong, but it's the popularity that gets to me.
Do we really live in a world where all the "smart alternative kids" are getting hyped over some Bobby Kimball/ Phil Collins hybrid bitching about a girl who won't be his friend? REALLY? The whole song is accompanied by these awful straight-from-the-eighties conga drums. I really think the only thing I like about this song is when the girl sings the words "Somebody that I USED to know" because that climb there is remotely interesting and all of the music drops out of the background.
Dammit, I'm back to bitching about the song.
No, all I'm saying is there is a lot of music out there that is different from what we're all used to hearing on the local radio stations and I've always accepted that in order to find it you'd have to go looking. Now, this piece of shit hits the airwaves and it's different and interesting and rather than have any actual music taste, people just latch on for dear life hoping not to get left behind the trend.
If this contrite bullshit is the next big thing, please, for the love of god, count me out.
