Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I hope you'll accept a late papar.
I like "Alexander the Great" alot but I could never see how it fits in with the rest of the album as far as theme. "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is my favorite out of the too. It doesn't sound as repetitive as its successor and it's a great ending to Powerslave. Let it be known that "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is a proven live classic where as "Alexander the Great" has yet to be proven in any live performance. I gotta say, during a tough em0 time in highschool, I identified with the Mariner.
I discovered the other great epic in Iron Maiden's catalouge only recently during the summer. "Seventh Son of Seventh Son" doesn't have the magic "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" had but it's still fucken A! Just hearing that guitar riff match in with Bruce's vocal melody as he screams *SEVENTH SON OF SEVENTH SON! Seventh Son of a Seventh SON!* is something that pleases the ear. It even sounds pretty bad ass. |
