mighty morning adolescents
2006-03-26 08:48:18 ET

I've been following the whole debacle between The Adolescents and Indie 103.1 since Dicky got fired Tuesday. It's sort of horrific, realizing how much everything is owned by these companies. And to have them limit artists to what they want to put out based on "what sells" is utterly ridiculous, especially when they've been mass-marketing INDIE MUSIC into becoming such a huge commercial label now.

"INDEPENDENT" has definitely lost its true meaning. Everything is affiliated with or backed up by some major distributor. Nothing is really DIY anymore. Everything costs money. Everything IS money. You can't even be "independently wealthy" without at least selling your soul either. And what sucks the most is the fact that you can never be scrubbed clean from what all those companies have already tainted you with...

More info:

ADDENDUM: Well, it looks like Dave Navarro's going to be filling in for him starting on Tuesday...
I think I want to punch someone now.

You can harass the program director, Michael Steel, at msteele@entravision.com

More info can be found at these sites:

I just found it really odd that that very day actually, when I had just got off the phone with him, I posted a comment onto the Indie 103.1's MySpace page saying, "Hiii, Dicky! PopiKoK Loves You!" and it never got approved. And then later that day, I find out he got fired and they've been deleting comments about him off of there left and right -- and even made it so that the MMS never even existed on their own website. Go figure. Who knew not bitching about a Morrissey song could get you DELETED? Hah...

EDIT: This has just been posted by THE ADOLESCENTS...
Indie 103.1 Advertisers to avoid and contact info...

PLEASE REPOST with new sponsors contact information as you find it.

A friendly phone call, an email, a fax. Let your voice be heard. Lots of us do Alternative Press, Wahoo's, Tower, Albertson's, etc. a quick note or call.

As a community of artists, musicians, promoters, fans, professionals, and producers, it falls upon us to hold accountable those who patronize as customers, affiliates, and otherwise stake holders, in what we find objectionable and unjust.

To that end, I propose we begin with the very lifeblood of Clear Channel by engaging one of its biggest advertisers as well as one of our community's largest suppliers of our craft; Guitar Center.

Below you will find the contact information of the Guitar Center in Fountain Valley. It is the one in my community and in my district as it pertains to the political sphere of influence. I suggest that you click the link to the Guitar Center website and find the location near you as well as the Store Manager and contact them to share your intention to divest of all their services and products until they contact Indie 103.1 to protest the suppression of free speech and open dialogue counter to that of an oppressive administration and ideology.

Please cut and paste this message with a new sponsor and contact information of that sponsor as you locate them. I am on my way to the Guitar Center in Fountain Valley now to express my disapproval of Clear Channel's (or Entravision if you choose) actions and my divesture of Guitar Centers products and services until Guitar Center divests of Indie 103.1 advertisements or voices protest of the dismissal of Dicky Barrett and the Mighty Mighty Morning Show.
