to everyone sending packages: to send a package to a soldier, you must fill out a customs card when you take it to the post office. soldiers have had high dollar items stolen from their packages, because the army is allowed to do random searches of packages. do not mark down high value items on the customs sheet. it is best to itemize 'objects' as things that soldiers usually get ,ie:
'books', 'magazines', 'baby wipes', etc. this helps cut down on those customs bastards stealing our stuff.

that is the second most awful thing I have heard yet.

The First most awful thing was a story about a Navy doctor that picked up an orphan girl during the war and placed her with a family that had lost its child. The family sent the doc a little silver bracelet.

So the Navy charged her with human trafficking. In the eyes of the lawyers, it was as if she had sold the child for the bracelet.

custom's agents scare me just a little.

and huskarl:

a good example of how legalities get in the way of good things being done.

2004-04-12 04:28:31 ET

actually there was more, they also charged her with:

misuse of property (trading MREs for Iraqi medical supplies, since hers had never arrived)

misuse of personnel (sending a male NCO to talk to the villagers about the girl, since they wouldn't listen to a woman)

and providing comfort to the enemy (she treated an Iraqi fighter for a cut on his hand after an unidentified group of them showed up at the aid station. The orphan girl was left at the station by this group)

it's all quite ridiculous, if you ask me.

magazines...

need any hi-caps for your m16 ?

:D

2004-04-12 10:12:35 ET

what are hi-caps? i'm not familiar with the term

2004-04-12 13:09:29 ET

wow, so much for the integrity of army peoples...no one is honest these days eh?

2004-04-12 15:00:04 ET

hi-caps are high-capacity magazines.

BE CAREFUL when employing any variation on your weapon system. More rounds sounds like better, but make sure it feeds reliably and that you can hug the ground with it. Get guidance from people that have been in-country for a while, and don't take it on the road to experiment. Make sure it works in camp first.

customs isn't army.

and it's just people. i've had stuff stolen in church before.

Huskarl: roger that, thanks bro. I hear that. I have a few magazines that are sluggish and I don't use them. I do have five out of my 7 30 round mags work very nicely though.

2004-04-16 16:27:15 ET

i wouldn't advise using anything over 30 for a .223

and nothing above 20 for a .308 as i learned recently.

roger. i have 7, 30 round mags. thanks guys. :)
