That is pretty awesome. What kind of yoga do you do?

2008-07-12 09:18:53 ET

Mostly Hatha and some Kundalini

Hatha is crazy! Do you do it in a steam room?

2008-07-12 09:25:34 ET

No, I do it in my living room. There's not really anywhere decent in Biloxi to practice at (especially not with the hours I work). However, hopefully there will be some nice places at my next duty station, meaning Cambridge as the closest large city.

That is even cooler I think, because (personally) it is quiet hard to dedicate to something like yoga an practice it on your own. Because there is too much room for slacking off ^_^
So what do you get out of it? I always wondered what is it exactly that yoga does to people... ^_^

There is a lot to be gained from practicing yoga. It will tone and strengthen the muscles in one's body and more importantly will do so in a balanced fashion. See, if someone goes into a gym and starts lifting without having a really solid understanding of body mechanics they will strengthen muscles at different rates, some even not at all. This leads to postural imbalances which will make you more sore and more uncomfortable throughout the day. One of many examples is people who do a lot of lifting for the chest, but nothing for the trapezius muscles. Their shoulders start to roll forward and they get this caved in look. Yoga uses natural body weight to strengthen these same muscles while keeping everything in balance. A balance of strenth training, flexibility, mental/ emotional training leads me to feeling more refreshed and happy throughout my life. Throw in the mandatory running we do in the military and I feel good and healthy just about all the time. It's awesome!

Oh wow this sounds wicked! Maybe I should give it a change *wonders if yoga lessons are cheaper than gym membership* lol

Anyways, you go to the army???? Whaaat? what do you do there?

Air Force, actually. I'm an Airfield Systems tech, which is to say that all the electrical equipment on the airfield I fix and maintain. For instance, there's this thing called the ILS (Instrument Landing System) that tells the pilots their vertical and horizontal orientation to the runway by way of radar patterns, and I control that piece of equipment among others.

As for the yoga thing, definitely try out some lessons and I'd also recommend some dvds for a little diversity and home practice. Check out Rodney Yee, I really like his stuff.
