2005-08-19 08:54:40 ET

Got any tips or advice for me?

2005-08-19 09:03:42 ET

keep them clean.
If you don't, they'll get this "cheesy" smell which my sister calls "ear cheese."
It's just the bacteria... nothing serious.
just annoying.

2005-08-19 09:04:25 ET

what was a 20 guage??

2005-08-19 09:04:37 ET

*gauge

2005-08-19 09:05:39 ET

20 is regular posts.

2005-08-19 09:06:12 ET

oh gotcha. stretched your ears?

2005-08-19 09:09:19 ET

La fille: What do you use to clean them? Is a rip too dangerous?

Tonarlwar:Yep! :)

2005-08-19 09:11:23 ET

rip?

just any antibacterial soap or... anything that cleans pretty much.

2005-08-19 09:12:55 ET

Yeah, when the guy did it, he said one of them tore a little. It bled for awhile (like not gushing) 'cause when I got home I cleaned it and there was some dried blood.

Yeah, he said something about antibacterial soap, but I didn't know what to do or when to do it. He gave me a baggy of sea salt and I've just been soaking.

2005-08-19 09:17:07 ET

sea salt is okay... it just dries it out though.
soap is better.

for the first few weeks, you may want to clean them at least once a day.

the rip is not a biggie. it will just take more time to heal it.

2005-08-19 09:18:11 ET

Oh, so I should use antibacterial twice a day? He said sea salt twice a day, but for the life of me I can't remember what the soap regiment was..I did leave the place a message. ButI trust you. ;)

2005-08-19 09:20:06 ET

either one, really.

the salt doesn't kill all of the bacteria, it just help the healing.

maybe both would be more beneficial.

I used salt on my belly button ring for a while and it worked fine, but it sort of rejected because I pierced it so many times. (oops :D)

2005-08-19 09:22:17 ET

Yeah, I'd had my belly button pierced, but the piercing...I took it out because not only did it never actually heal, it was infected AND it was piercing crooked.

2005-08-19 09:24:47 ET

thats lame it was crooked.

my friend got his tounge pierced crooked, but the piercer (a friend) didn't tell him it was crooked.

it was kinda funny actually.

2005-08-19 09:25:05 ET

he screwed up one of his nipple piercings, too.

2005-08-19 09:26:24 ET

ha ha, yeah...my boyfriend has his nipples pierced, and like...they started out straight? but they've both sort of turned? It's strange... (And icky!)

2005-08-19 09:29:08 ET

they can do that sometimes. that's also lame.

luckily, all of my other piercings besides my belly button (well, the last two times I did it) I did myself didn't get infected or anything. And I barely took care of them.

I was lucky, but I wouldn't count on that happening.
once it's infected it sucks ass to heal it.

2005-08-19 09:32:27 ET

I'm super paranoid now, my Mom kept saying things like "What if you get a huge infection that can spread to your face and neck!" And she's a nurse, so I fear that there is some validity there.

The last piercing I had was my belly button and my body didn't handle that well. this is an entirely different area, so hopeflly it won't get infected.

Thank you for your help :)

Um, how often do you clean your ears by the way? And do you move the jewelry around?

2005-08-19 09:34:35 ET

mine are healed so I take them out in the shower and clean the earings.

don't worry about that kind of infection. that's only if you let it go, which you'd only do if you were really REALLY ignorant.

2005-08-19 09:37:43 ET

hee hee hee.

How did you do your? Did you go get it done professionally or did you do it yourself?

(damn they're sensetive too! especially the toren one lol)

2005-08-19 09:39:15 ET

i stretched it slowly over a period of... a few months I think.

I didn't know when it was a 20g that I wanted it to be a 4g.

It didn't hurt as much though... ^.^

2005-08-19 09:41:08 ET

Hee Hee.

Yeah, it didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would. But it definitely hurt, more today then it did yesterday. Which I guess makes sense. I've got big danglies so I bet that contributes to the ouchy factor.

2005-08-19 10:19:57 ET

just a bit.

2005-08-19 13:15:56 ET

Danglies do contribute to the ouchy factor, but you should be good in a few days. I stretched my lobes from 12g to 2g and it DID hurt, so I feel your pain...

Oh, and if you have any questions here's a site with a good FAQ:

I was told by my piercer, NEVER use soap? He said ONLY sea salt.

And thank you!

2005-08-19 14:14:02 ET

weird.

2005-08-19 15:43:26 ET

Depends on the piercer. Some swear by soap. I've been told to use Ivory. I've been told to use Dial Antibacterial. I've also been told to never use soap, only sea salt...

Your safest route is to take the mildest approach, so I'd stick with the sea salt solution...and if any probs arise, contact your piercer!

2005-08-19 21:17:24 ET

Hee hee, he and I have talked 3 times today, because I'm a lame-o obsessed whore...

2005-08-19 22:00:32 ET

Hey, for how long did your guys' ears hurt?

And, did a little bit of yellowish sticky stuff come out like the first day or two that you had it done?

My Mom said there is noting, but I'm a little worried.

(Damn I'm paranoid)

2005-08-24 18:58:17 ET

Pfft, earrings are for the weak.
