Well, it's about to get exciting here... maybe. Not in a good way.

I'm reaching the end of the 2nd week in to my temp gig with the YWCA (interim thrift store manager).

Greg is more than likely to start doing OTR trucking with Stevens Transport unless he can find a job here in the next week or so. He's already been hired, he just has to tell them when he's ready to go to Dallas to get his 3 week refresher CDL school thing done. We're not breaking up. We talked a lot of shit over. We've actually been getting along pretty well. Basically, if I get a decent job at the end of the temp thing we'll make a LDR work and he'll send home money so I can afford to keep our place. His company said they'll route him home every 3 weeks but he's warned me that in his experience it ends up being around every 6-12 weeks. I think I'd go stark-raving mad by myself for that much of a time period.

If I can't find a decent job at the end of this temp assignment I'll be joining him on the road and we'll be subletting our place furnished to my little brother so that we can keep our stuff there as DOT requires him to maintain a real address and not a PO box. But, the part that really makes me sad is that this transport company has a no pets policy. I would have to rehome the katzen and he would have to rehome his dog. I really don't want to rehome the katzen to spend 20 hours a day in a semi. It really makes me cry. I know my brother will not be willing to be responsible for the dog & I highly doubt he'd be willing to take on the cats even though his costs for a furnished place would be $300 (including water) + electric & cable if he chose to have it - we'd be subsidizing $250, I wish for that he'd at least feed the cats and empty the cat box - I'd even gladly pay for the food.

*The katzen is like the kracken but far worse. It has 16 legs, 4 tails, and 4 heads. It is very scary and is a force to be reckoned with.

if he's being a trucker, it would be good for you to get a cdl and join him. if you want the relationship to work.

then as a team you can make bank.

If I didn't have 4 years worth of student loans and were fairly close to a Bachelors with plans to go on to a masters and doctorate I'd consider it. But, I won't make enough as a driver to pay off my loans and reach the income level I was aiming for when I pursued college in the first place. Also, I detest driving things bigger than the beater hyundai accent I currently own & really felt most comfortable driving things miata sized. I hate big vehicles...

*shrug...

i know some people make really excellent money. i think it depends on who you work for and what kind of loads you run.

my mom and the now ex step dad used to run cali to florida and got to have their dog with them.

if they would have been better at saving than spending they would have retired.

I guess it depends what you consider excellent... I know some people do pretty well but to be frank (and I don't mean this offensively in the slightest), I didn't take out the level of loans I have and apply as much effort as I have in college to likely make less than I will with the master's degree and a management position that calls for that level of education.

it's always good to have something to fall back on. and i'm not offended. in the meantime, while you won't be employable at that level for 10ish + years, you could work during the summer etc. and make some money to pay back the loans.

with the economy tanking still, lots of people with all kinds of degrees find themselves looking for jobs at McDonalds.

It's just not worth the level of sacrifice it would entail. Doing something I'm 99% sure I won't enjoy and probably won't be able to pass the driving tests for (I sure as fuck failed at driving with a trailer when I moved across town with a miata though Greg says thats a lot harder than driving a semi) AND I'd have to give up the katzen. My eldest cat has been with me through 2 relationships - one of which was abusive. That cat means the world to me...

Also, if I have years of being an OTR driver on my resume I can't even think of how that would remotely translate well in to the corporate world. It's an idea... just something I'm not really interested in pursuing for a few reasons.

i agree, i guess i meant that it would be good to have something to use while working on the bigger goal. maybe even hair or skin care, just it's good to have a skill. good job ethics are always favorable in the corporate world.
