so today bing has a photo of “fireworks in san francisco” as today’s background photo for the 4th of july - what they neglect to mention is that the photo is of san francisco’s new years eve fireworks display (which is on an entirely different part of the bay from the 4th of july display) because i’m 99% sure no clear photographs of 4th of july fireworks here exist. because fog.
even more hilariously i discovered after this that the san francisco government webpage for the 4th of july eventalso shows a photo of the new years eve fireworks display instead of the 4th. the holiday-season-only edge lighting on the embarcadero center buildings in the background is a dead giveaway to the time of year. not to mention the location of the fireworks is wrong. and of course, not visibly hindered by fog. hilarious.
in bing's case i don't know. that said, even san francisco's government webpage for the event shows NYE fireworks instead, which is pretty hilarious. the 4th is always foggy as hell, though, and you can barely see anything, so i don't know what else they'd do to promote it online i guess.
