turboskanker 2021-10-20 12:07:03 ET see, i find that approach is more fun when it's someone tourist actually visiting in-person (and, yes, usually from texas. we had a big fucking cruise ship of those asshats here last week.) - it's more enjoyable to use the off-the-deep-end-hyperbolic-nonsense approach when the person asking you the dumbass question about your city is standing right in it with whatever fox news talking point they've just asked about (and all the nonsense you're about to add to it) so blatantly nonexistant and debunked by what's right in front of them. also i'll never cease to be amazed and depressed by how many americans are endlessly trying their hardest to blame everything relating to housing costs on ANYTHING BUT the fucking real estate industry and its enabling landlords. america should change its name to "Stockholm Syndrome: The Country"

"why yes, my kid and i have free healthcare through the city. why yes, it's better than literally any option you have where you live by every measurable metric. also that cable car you're riding on, and all the preserved western / victorian architecture you love so much? you can thank the socialist activists who fought and basically forced the local government to keep all that intact here while your "freedom" state tore it all down. sorry, what was that again about "triggering the libs"?" my parents, who used to watch national news (particularly fox news) regularly have COMPLETELY stopped watching it since i've moved here, simply because they've now visited enough times to be forced to see the absolutely comical disparity between the reality of san francisco vs the absolutely made-up nonsense that they kept hearing about on TV.
