as with most things in the ever-propagandized and PsyOp'd united states, what socialism and communism actually are, and what actual socialists and communists think, are likely not what you've been led to believe - at all.

Happy 4th of July from the Party of Communists USA!

On the Meaning of July 4th for Communists

On July 4 we celebrate one of the greatest events of history - the signing of the first great modern charter of democracy, the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Though five more years of war were needed to give King George III and his Tory supporters their final defeat, the democratic American nation had its birth on that day.

The Declaration of Independence was based on a solid confidence and faith in the common man, in the ability of people to govern themselves. The final authority rests with the people who are the real rulers. According to the intentions of Jefferson and most of the signers, this principle was to be the basis for the American system of government.

This doctrine was most disagreeable to the big American merchants who did a prosperous trade with England, to the aristocratic, the prosperous and the privileged, to the officers, judges, and countless other officials of the British crown and their hangers-on. To these gentry Washington’s army and supporters were the “propertyless rabble” whom they hated and feared far more than foreign domination. These are the gentlemen who organized the Tory party, who financed, supported and spied for the English king against their countrymen.

But side by side with riches there grew poverty. We have within our borders some of the most beautiful cities in the world, but in those cities there are slums that breed crime and disease. We have factories and plants that can produce food, clothing and modern housing for twice our population, but many of our people are hungry, ill-clad, ill-housed. Our old people approach age with fear and insecurity.

What has happened to the America of Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, Tom Paine, the America of Valley Forge and Yorktown? The answer is: the rise of monopoly capital. Stated in another way, great banks and corporations, fattening on the labor of workers and farmers and by devouring small enterprises, have gathered in to their hands ownership and control of the sources of wealth of our country.

The concentration of wealth into the hands of the few has naturally meant that enormous political power has also been concentrated into these same hands. Exactly what Thomas Jefferson feared and sought to prevent had come to pass.

The history of America since Jefferson has been largely the struggle of the American people against the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the few. Even at the very birth of the republic the representatives of the entrenched wealth of the day, of whom Alexander Hamilton was the outstanding spokesman, sought to secure economic and political power for the large propertied interests. To this end they bitterly opposed a democratic constitution. It was only after a long popular struggle that Jefferson won the inclusion of the Bill of Rights in to the Constitution as the first ten Amendments.

Today the nation is again faced with a decisive struggle between the forces of democracy and progress and the forces of reaction.

Sounds like something a communist would say 🤔

i will just say that the deep state, which has spent its entire history lying to americans about everything else, has also lied to americans about communism and socialism for the same reasons.

also the fact that CPI, an openly communist think tank, gave scott ritter a platform to speak at that anti-war rally after the libertarian party tried to remove and censor him - CPI also openly heralded ritter as an american hero - is all that really needs to be said beyond that.

but, to ramble beyond that anyway, are there critiques to be made about some countries that currently identify as communist or socialist?

yes.

is most of what americans have been taught about communism and socialism the exact same deep state bullshit from the same bullshit artists who lie, manipulate, and miseducate US citizens about everything else?

yes.

the fact that some americans genuinely think joe fucking biden is a communist is absolutely laughable. a lot of americans are truly clueless to what these terms mean, their history in america or otherwise, or what those who honestly adhere to them advocate for. FFS the green bay packers are technically a socialist football team who got that way because once upon a time wisconsin actually had a significant socialist movement in the US, and some of them decided it made more sense to communally own a football team than to let one rich, dictatorial asshole own it instead.

as for me personally, i organize with and advocate for 3rd party and independent folks of all stripes - and i organize with 3rd party and independent folks who share this same mindset that it's all of us citizens vs the assholes in power. beyond that, i pay attention to track record and principles over simple talk, and i do my best to ignore divide-and-conquer propaganda.

i felt this 4th-of-july letter sent out by the PCUSA was as good as anything i would otherwise post here or anywhere on independence day. the more life i live, the more people i meet, the more i learn and research, both in and outside of america, the one throughline i see in all of it is that the US may just be the most propagandized country on the planet, and virtually everything i see the US media & government project onto other countries, "communist" or otherwise, is shit that good ol' capitalist-loving, money-grubbing washington DC is actually the one doing.

so, that's about all i got. people can label me whatever they want. i'm just gonna position myself on the side of the citizenry being crushed by the bastards, and not bootlick the bastards.

I was just giving you a hard time, but for real, I get it. I actually agree with the content of the letter, even if I come at it from a different angle.

RE: mis/dis-info - being an anarchist, I am well acquainted with how thoroughly skewed the average American's understanding of unconventional/third-party politics are. We're in the same boat, alas.
