Sweet Child o' Mine
2004-08-24 16:56:17 ET

She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that
special place
And if I stared too long
I'd probably break down and cry

Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine

She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me
of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by

Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine

Where do we go
Where do we go now
Where do we go
Sweet child o' mine

Well, my first inclination is to be dissapointed,
but how can you be dissapointed at a concert where you get to dance with your girlfriend all night?

The BBVD put on a good show, again, though it was incredibly short.
I've never seen them play for less than 2 hours, but this time they only hit about an hour and a half. Most of the songs were from their 2nd, hit album, and their most recent album. I really wanted them to play "Please Baby," but I guess I can't expect them to play everything, every time.

wait. Yes I can.

anyhoo... A nice venue, good crowd, (probably the largest I've ever seen at a BBVD show), and plenty of room for dancing. Probably because for those who didn't want to dance, there were seats.

A lot of folks came dressed up, suits, hats, dresses and all, and I was no exception.
I wore a bright, blue suit and my baby wore a white dress w/ black polka-dots. Very vintage and very cute.
There was one creepy guy dressed in a black wannabe zoot suit (it looked more like an over-sized jacket, wide-brimmed hat, swingin' chain and all, and he just sat in the back and watched the show, stone-faced.
How queer.

and yes, somebody did come up and tell us that we were cute.
I'm telling you, we can't escape it.

Summer Rain
2004-08-20 18:46:04 ET

man on the rooftop
staring at the rain
shirtless
courageous
and utterly insane
human lightning rod
messenger from god
watching silent lightning strike
and missing the thunder call
cool breeze chills
his sweat-caked skin
as he's randomly illuminated
and sillohuetted again
fighting for truth then
fumbling for change
he stands on the roof
again and again
looking at the city
imagining he's god
of some run-down apartment
what a silly sod
to attract death by lightning
to catch a cold in the rain
or a man for our time
standing
where none of us would dare.

...
Frightened of the lightning
like a dog hiding under the bed
I snuck back inside my house
and watched the rain like a cat
from the windowsill, instead
Now it's raining harder and I want to go outside
to wash away these dog-day blues
this past summer to hide
the sweat from off my body
the rain will wash away
like the sins I've never confessed
the stains of Valentines' Day.
Rain rain everywhere,
but not a drop to drink.
It's all polluted by our waste.
Ironic... don't you think?
