Wow...    2007-01-15 14:05:03 ET
Ever have one of those times where one night you watch one movie and you are so completely disgusted by it that you want to vomit and than the next night watch a movie that is so completely amazing that you are thinking about it hours later...I had one of those moments the last few nights.
Movie #1 The Vanishing(American Version)
There was a French film made quite a bit ago, I am not certain of the year, called the Vanishing. I have seen bits and pieces of it, what I saw, I enjoyed. The basic plot is this: A man and his girlfriend stop at a reststop, the girlfriend goes into the convienence store to get something and than vanishes without a trace. Three years later, the boyfriend is still looking for her, obsessed with finding out what happened to her. Than, the man who is responsible for her disappearance contacts him out of nowhere, asking him if he still wants to know what happened to his girlfriend, if he does, than he has to go with this man. Now, this is wonderful, the kidnapper is just your everyday man who wondered if he could do something evil and it turns out that he can. Just like any true psychopath, he looks just like everyone else, he is not scary, he is not the Devil, or any of that nonsense. The boyfriend does end up going with the psychopath, and keeps asking about his girlfriend. The psychopath responds and says the only way he can find out is to go through exactly what she went through, he offers the boyfriend a drugged drink which he injest. *Spoiler Warning!!!* When the boyfriend wakes up, he is inside of a coffin. The psychopath has buried him alive, and thusly, he now knows what happened to his girlfriend. And that is the end of the Vanishing.*End Spoiler*
I have been warned to never watch the American version of this film but since I am of a curious sort, I ignored that advice and watched it.
Oh. My. God.
It was terrible, what a god awful piece of dreck, it embodied what is wrong with most America movies, which is the happy ending syndrome, which has ruined so many potentially good movies. In this version, everything is inherently the same, but, the new girlfriend saves her boyfriend, kills the psychopath, and the movie even ends with a hideously bad scene that is supposed to be humerous. Honestly, it made me want to throw my channel changer at the screen.
What made the original Vanishing so powerful, in my opinion, is the fact that the psychopath gets away with it, the message was so much stronger, there are cruel, sadistic people in this world who do reprehensible things and you know what, they do not always get punished for it, sometimes, they get away with it completely, it is a sad fact to be sure, but that is life, isn't it, complete with all it's shadows. The American version destroyed the power of the original with the ludicrous cowboy, good always triumphs over evil which is not realistic or reflective of true life in the least bit. Argh, I do not even want to think about it any longer, I wish I could have that hour and forty five minutes of my life back!
Movie #2 Metropolis(1926 version)
Metropolis came out during the silent cinema era, in 1926. It is about a future world, the 21st century, where the rich play in a beautiful city and the slave class toil below, powering the machines that makes the rich citizens lives easier. It is about rebellion, revolution and how without the heart, the mind and hands cannot hope to connect.
Now, on the other end of the spectrum, the triumph of silent cinema, the masterpiece, the thought provoking, the amazing Metropolis. Another movie I had only seen bits and pieces of, it was on and I finally sat down to watch it, wow, I have been denying myself for too long. What an incredible movie, it was awe inspiring, I could not believe how brilliant it was, how powerful. The symbolism, the metaphor, the bleak vision of the future and how certain aspects of the film ring true in this day and age, how relevant it is to this time and place in history. It was moving, it was fantastic, it was immediately put on my favorites list and it is near the top. Anyone who has not seen it, see it, you will be doing yourself a favor, it will open your mind and touch you emotionally. I was still pondering it today, going over in my mind what exactly made it so wonderful, and few movies are that excellent that I am still thinking about them the next day. Very few movies effect me like this, and I am rarely, if ever, blown away, but this movie had everything, just a truly marvelous work of film, see it, you will not regret it.

{1} Do you ever see garbage bags on the side of the highway and wonder if there are body parts inside?
Yes, yes I do actually, I have even been tempted to stop and sate my curiousity. Rolled up carpets and cardboard boxes as well.

{2} If you ever got the chance to practice cannibalism, would you?
Eh, the human body is a storehouse for bacteria, it would depend on a lot, if it was carrion, a living person, and I never eat anything raw...wait, what am I saying?! ;p

{3} If forced to overdose on a drug, which one would you choose?
How about a cocktail of different drugs, that way I can die on the ultimate high, hell, I probably would not even realize what was happening, it's all good, heh!

{4} Shot or stabbed to death?
Shot, it would be faster, not to mention stabbing is too personal, too up close, ick.

{5} Asphyxiated or exsanguinated?
You expect to pick between the sadistic bastard! ~_^

{6} Drowned or buried alive?
Argh, both of my choices for worst way to go, eh, drowing I suppose, I could do without the stress of being buried alive.

{7} killed by blunt-force trauma to the head or crushed to death?
Blunt force trauma, I am all about fast, efficient modes of death, no dicking around for me!

{8} poisoned or overdosed?
I would rather be poisoned, one, I am fascinated by poisons and two, overdosing would mean you were committing suicide and I refuse to do that.

{9} killed by a flesh-eating virus or by rats or ants slowly pecking at you?
Wow, this is the best question yet, how about expiring from the flesh eating virus, than have the carrion critters feast on you, there, now everyone's happy...except me.

{10} out of all the above choices, which one do you like best?
How about a combination of a few of them, that would at least make for some riveting television when they finally start televising executions, which they will.

{11}...which is the worst way to die in your opinion?
Being buried alive has always been a fear for me, the realization of my situation alone may cause me to die of a heart attack...which would solve my problem I suppose.

{12} killed (by a person) intentionally, or by accident?
A person, accidents, how boring is that, people can be so creative, make it count.

{13} killed by a serial killer (for pleasure) or a hitman (for profit)?
A hitman, I have studied serial killers too long to desire to be anyone's victim, besides, a hitman would mean someone thought I was significant enough to merit special attention, fantastical!

{14} killed in a car crash or a plane crash?
Ah, a car crash, as I have an odd fixation on car wrecks and always joked that that is how I will probably meet my end.

{15} killed in your home or away from home?
Away from home, I do not like doing much at home, least of all dying.

{16} killed in your sleep or while watching TV?
In my sleep, I know, how mundane.

{17} killed by someone who knew you, a stalker, or a complete stranger?
A stalker, I would be entertained by how pitiful they were before they killed me, I would love to have a good laugh before I went.

{18} what do you want done with your body when you die?
I want my body to be cremated, than my ashes mixed with the refreshments for my after funeral celebration.

{19} you're forced to have your funeral at a place OTHER than a church - where would you choose?
I would not have it at a church anyways, perhaps in an industrial style lot or perhaps even a club, ha ha, that would be spiffy!

{20} what song/s would you want played at your funeral?
I have a wonderful mix cd that could be used to any occasion, one must always be prepared!

{21} what outfit would you like to be buried in?
My New Rocks, I would let my friends decide on everything else, they know what I like.

{22} who do you want to give your eulogy?, not the Devil, my best friend, or perhaps my friend Damian...ha ha, my best friends are Lucifer and Damian!!! ^_^

{23} any other specifics about your funeral you'd like to share?
I would honestly rather not have your basic brand of funeral, when I am dead, I am dead, no need to linger after the fact, just celebrate who I was and what I did, not my untimely end.

{24} would you rather be forgotten about when you die, or remembered but hated?
Heh, this reminds me of my favorite quip about my funeral, half the people will be there to mourn me, the other half to make sure that I am dead!

{25] would you rather die alone, or die loved but leave a heartbroken mate behind?
I would rather die alone, which I am pretty certain will happen anyways, and that's how I likes it!

This made me laugh outloud.
Great for any fan of H.P Lovecraft, Hello Kitty and making seemingly evil, terrifying creations cute, that could be my calling in life honestly!
Btw, I am moving back to FL in January, I am finally moving out on my own(again), wish me luck! I am finally free of Misery, huzzah!
To everyone, enjoy Annual Gift Giving Day, I think this holiday goes by some other name, I am not entirely certain what it is, drat, right on the tip of my tongue! ~_^

This site amused me, if you want to find out how many of your favorite energy drinks, soft drinks, or coffe drinks it would take to kill you, this is your new god.
Ha ha, I would have to drink a lot of Starbucks coffe before I would O'D on caffeine, ah, where would we be without the Internet, without this most vital information, I might have drank 92 Starbucks frappuchino drinks in one sitting and not thought a thing about it, my eyes have been opened, thank you WWW, thank you.
