We came, we saw, we got drunk | 2004-10-06 01:43:21 ET |
Just got back from another hideous trip to the Frankfurt Airport. This past week with Z was a blast. We didn't have much luck finding things that were open and when we did, we couldn't locate them. SO, we spent a lot of time sitting on the couch and drinking. In four days we consumed over 2 cases (remember I'm a "lightweight"). The biggest disappointment of the week was Oktoberfest. Neither Z or I had been to one before, and really wanted to go. Munich is about 2 1/2 hours away from us, so needless to say it was a long ride. When we finally reached the fest, it was so damn busy that we couldn't even get a beer without waiting in a huge-ass line that seemed about an hours wait. We could barely move in the big crowds, and decided that Oktoberfest wasn't all it's cracked up to be (unless you have a camper and get there ass-early to avoid lines. We left without ever having a sip of the fest beer. It was funny, though, to see all the drunk people walking, well really staggering, around every where. At one point while we were weaving through the people, a guy that was in front of us just fell to the floor passed out. Two guys in leiderhosen (obviously obliterated) started seranading Z with their plastic horn and guitar and demanded that she took a picture of them. It was hilarious! As for the rest of the trip we shopped in Rothenburg, had an "I need an orange outfit" experience at the mall, ate a lot of non-German foods (on the last day I got her a doner so she'd have a "taste" of Germany), toured the Wuerzburg Residenz and saw some palace and fairytale garden thing (which we didn't understand a thing that was going on). Overall, it was quite fun having a little bit of home with me here in Germany and I was really sad to see her go. Looking forward to the next one!
