It's been a little while, but that's okay, I have an excuse.
We bought a house.
It's kinda freaky - we're moving in on Saturday.

It's a lovely little two bedroom Victorian thing - built by a carpenter in 1892. The livingroom and diningroom not only have gorgeous wood paneling around the celing - the celing itself is carved hardwood.
Kitchen is modern and kinda ugly, but it's functional so we're all good (and we can change it later). Bedrooms are also kinda ugly - the walls are white, but the carpet is a dusty pink and the picture rail is a different clashing shade of pink ... it will have to go. Soon.

Hello Kitty onigiri is filled with tuna - I formed her ears separately, and they don't look like they're going to stick. I guess I'll have to try forming it all as one next time.

Badtz-Maru onigiri is made with black Thai rice and filled with tuna and pickles. He didn't work so well, because the black rice is the wrong kind of sticky. If I do it again, I'll just add a few grains of the black rice to my regular pearl rice to dye it purple. I had to use orange cheese for his eyes, because I didn't have any white on hand.
I have to remember to bring a fork to eat it with, because he's going to fall apart, unless he sets overnight.

The rest was haphazardly thrown together, because it's late and I need to go to bed.

MINI TACO!2011-03-17 18:53:37 ET

They had a potluck at work today, and I decided to try something I've had in mind for a while. I'm sure someone has already done it, but everyone at work thought it was a good idea (also tasty!)

Mini Taco Bites

Tostitos Scoops Tortilla chips (or similar bowl shaped chips)
Finely chopped lettuce
Refried beans
Mexican Rice
Taco Sauce or Salsa
Sour Cream
Shredded Cheese
Grape Tomato slices
Jalapeno slices

All I did was place the chips in a cake pan in a single layer, put lettuce in each one. Put the refried beans in a sandwich bag, cut the corner off and piped it on top of the lettuce. Spooned on the rice, taco sauce and sour cream. Sprinkled with cheese and placed a tomato and jalapeno slice on each one.
I put some wax paper on top and did another layer. You can fit just over 50 into a 9x13 pan. It took just under an hour to prep and put everything together.
I made them vegetarian because I like to do that for potlucks, but you can, of course use meat instead.
People exclaimed at how cute they were - they look like they take a lot more work than they actually do.

To Boldly Paint ... part 22011-03-08 16:11:38 ET

I got asked to paint another Star Trek figure for my friend.
He can't stop gushing about the last one.

While we were talking he said "do you know anyone who makes doll clothes?"
I laughed and said "other than me?"

He said that wasn't quite the reply he was looking for, because he doesn't want to overload me with customization requests, but he's looking to make every version of Kirk that appeared throughout the original series.
There is one that is an android duplicate, and he's wearing a jumpsuit, so he would need something sewn (as it would be difficult to make it look right simply by painting)
Here is a shot of the suit - I think I could do it in action figure scale (considering the doll pictured below is about half the height of one of the current Star Trek action figures)
He said he'd hold off on asking me to do it though.
